It’s time for the weekend and you want to unwind with your family after a busy week. Time for a trip to a local café for coffee, or to a restaurant for a delicious meal! To take some of the stress out of choosing where to visit, we’ve put together a list of the best cafes and restaurants in Epping and Mernda for family meals.

  1. Two Beans and a Farm, Mernda

This café is extremely popular and for good reason. Come in for a family meal that’s a bit different. Their menu includes dishes such as duck paella and baked eggs, and is reasonably priced. The atmosphere is warm and they are very happy to accommodate families with babies and prams. Plenty of gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options. They are open for breakfast and lunch every day, and Saturday night dinner.

  1. Mernda Bakery Cafe

Set in an old 19th century house, this café is not short on charm. On a cold day, sit by the open fire and when the weather is warm take a seat outside so the children can run around and entertain themselves. The food is classic café style, try the big breakfast or their excellent iced coffees. There’s a disabled or pram access at the back, baby change facilities and a kids menu. One thing to note is that the restaurant can get busy and service can be a bit slow, so visit on a day when your family is ok with a lazy café experience. Make sure you take home a loaf of their house baked, traditional bread when you leave!

  1. The Secret, Epping

Locals say this is one of Epping’s best kept secrets. It’s a café, restaurant and bar so it can be visited on many occasions, from a quiet coffee to a birthday celebration. Serving sizes are large and the food is great quality, look out for the chicken parma and their speciality seafood. They don’t provide a children’s menu, but we bet your little ones will be happy with their fantastic pizzas.

  1. China Bar Signature, Epping

China Bar is an Asian buffet, a great place to visit with a hungry family. There’s children’s pricing and toddlers eat for free. Locals love the seafood dishes and the staff are very attentive. Children (and adults!) will love the chocolate fountain and the huge range of mains and desserts. Book ahead for busy holidays.

  1. La Famiglia, Epping

A family favourite since 2001, La Famiglia serves traditional but modern Italian. Portions are large, great for big appetites and a kids menu for young ones. Their pizzas are a popular choice and they have plenty to offer in the way of pasta and steaks. The place can be loud when busy, which occurs often even on Monday nights. If you’re after a quiet family meal here come in for a weekday lunch.

  1. Epping Thai

This restaurant has great Thai décor and a warm atmosphere. It’s a must-visit if you love authentic Thai food, and the fact that it is often busy is a testament to their great dishes. Try one of their curries, Massaman and Red Curry are favourites. Pricing is fairly reasonable and it’s accessible for both prams and wheelchairs.
