YMCA Early Learning Centres across Melbourne are adopting a revolutionary new environmental cleaning system – a first in Australian childcare centres.
The eWater system is currently being rolled out in 13 YCA childcare centres across greater Melbourne. The latest centres to come on board are:
- South east - Clyde North, Clyde North Moroak Crescent, Cranbourne North and Pakenham
- West - Point Cook, Truganina South, Derrimut, Kororoit Creek and Taylors Hill
- North – Mernda and Epping North, Craigieburn West
The system will be implemented at all new YMCA early learning sites being built, including those at Tarneit and Wyndham Vale, slated to open early next year.
The cleaning system – favoured in hospitals and restaurants across the country – uses an electrical charger to split water and salt to produce two separate solutions that clean and sanitise safely and sustainability. The sanitising solution kills harmful microbes due to its super oxidized properties, and because it uses only natural ingredients, promotes the reuse of materials, reduces both chemical and plastic waste and is naturally biodegradable.
It also cuts down the use of potentially toxic packaged chemicals and avoids possible health risks.
For YMCA Clyde North Early Learning Centre manager Sandra Wraight, bringing the cleaning system into the early learning centre was ideal.
“It cleans surfaces, washes food and keeps toys clean, all without any harmful chemicals,” she said.
YMCA Mernda Early Learning Centre manager Erika Patterson said another benefit was that it did not leave chemical residue on the surface that bacteria could become immune to.
“The system is also environmentally friendly. We’re reducing millions of chemicals going back into the environment and cutting back on the number of plastic containers going to landfill,” Erika said.
YMCA Derrimut Early Learning Centre manager Shea Quirk said the Y was committed to providing clean, safe and healthy environments for children. “We do everything we can to avoid risks,” she said.
General Manager of eWater John Archer supported the YMCA’s decision to use the scientifically proven cleaning system, saying there were proven alternatives to using mass-produced chemical products.
